About Brian Shah, MD

Dr. Brian Shah is a dual-degreed (MD, DDS), board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon specializing in TMJ pathology, dentofacial deformities, and airway issues. He developed the Face First philosophy to guide diagnosis and treatment for these interrelated conditions, which can lead to chronic pain, facial imbalance, and sleep apnea. Dr. Shah’s low-volume practice allows for personalized care, with patients spending an entire day during their initial consultation. If surgery is required, patients stay up to 14 days in St. Petersburg for close follow-up. Dr. Shah’s collaborative approach ensures optimal care, and as a member of the American Society of TMJ Surgeons, he is dedicated to advancing the field.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr Shah and his team. He is one of the best surgeons I have had. His commitment to helping others and honesty is above the 5 star mark. He is sincere, intelligent and understands the β€œjaw”. I am now 15 months out from TMJ discectomy with fat graph and am completely healed. No pain. Eating whatever I want and back to living life.

My experience with this clinic was very disappointing. I reached out for a consultation and explained that I already had a recent CT scan less than four months old along with two panoramic exams. I was told these would not be accepted because the clinic requires patients to repeat all exams through their own protocol. The consultation alone was quoted at two thousand dollars, and being required to redo imaging I had just taken made the process feel inflexible and not patient centered. I ultimately did not move forward because I did not feel comfortable repeating tests unnecessarily or paying such a high fee before receiving any care. I hope they reconsider their approach so future patients have a better experience.

After exhausting other options, I was told I needed both jaws advanced 8mmβ€”a shock that sent me down a deep research rabbit hole. CT scans and sleep studies confirmed my airway was extremely narrow, preventing restful sleep. Determined to find the best care, I sought out experts, took courses (often as the lone periodontist among oral surgeons and orthodontists!), read textbooks, and even considered flying to Australia. Eventually, I was introduced to Dr. Brian Shah through my classmate, and it felt like everything aligned at the right time. Dr. Shah is a next-level surgeon. He uses virtual surgical planning and custom titanium guides, which minimize guesswork and significantly improve surgical precision and recovery. In my own implant work, similar digital workflows have been game changersβ€”and it makes complete sense for jaw surgery. He also uses piezosurgery, a gentler, high-precision bone-cutting method that produces less heat and traumaβ€”something I use in my practice and
